Gracious Words

Adam’s Baptism Testimony

Adam Wong

I was saved at five years old.  My mom and dad came to me at night and asked me if I wanted to accept Jesus Christ in my heart and have eternal life.  I gladly accepted.  I have grown up in a Christian family and gone to church all of my life.  I know every Bible story and Sunday school answer.  I have gone to church and done different ministries such as VBS and MOT.

vbs_8293cFor VBS, I was part of the drama team.  A main part of drama is acting out a role and I think I’m good at drama because I have been acting for most of my life. At church I am “ready-to-serve-others-and-do-things” Adam. At school I’m “sarcastic-and-sharp” Adam who doesn’t like to share the Gospel for fear of being unpopular. At home I’m “I-have-to-get-good-grades-to-make-my-parents-happy” Adam even though I know they love me no matter what.

This last year at CBM the speaker spoke about these things; about being a different person for different people and how it’s all masks that hide our true identity. In doing great services here, my heart could be elsewhere.  The speaker also talked about how we have a purpose: to share the Gospel and live a life for Christ.  In John 4, Jesus talks to the Samaritan woman and shares his message with her.  Jesus crosses cultural and ethnic borders.   Why shouldn’t we cross boundaries for the Gospel?   What is my true identity? Is it in Christ? Is Jesus being shown in the way I live?

hand_8809cnThe reason I am here today to take the step of baptism is because I am proclaiming that I’m a follower of Christ.  I want to be a Godly man who follows after God’s own heart.  It’s time to live my life out for Christ with no fear.  Romans 8:31 says, “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” No fear. God is with us.
